Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

Program Objectives

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is a collaborative effort led by Shaping Summit Together with all the not-for-profit program-providing agencies, volunteers, cultural affinity groups, houses of worship, and City of Summit agencies to honor the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Participating organizations and groups offer a full day of inspiring events, service projects and activities that encourage all members of the community to volunteer and celebrate side-by-side in the spirit of Dr. King’s “Dream” of unity among neighbors. The programs take place in various Summit locations from 7am to 9:30pm on the national holiday. All events and celebrations are free and open to the public. There are activities for people of all ages.

The mission of The Day of Service is to help motivate all who live, work or worship in Summit to volunteer and work together so as to educate, inspire and improve the community and to better achieve city unity.
